‘World No Tobacco Day’ is observed on May 31 to encourage a one-day abstinence from all kinds of tobacco, as smoking is the second biggest cause of death globally. According to the World Health Organization, smoking kills more than 5 million people every year, including some 600,000 non-smokers who died from exposure to tobacco smoke.
In Pakistan, more than 100,000 people died from diseases caused by the use of tobacco last year, according to the Coalition of Tobacco Control in Pakistan.
