ISLAMABAD, June 11: Rawalpindi and Islamabad received rain on Saturday, breaking the hot spell which was continuing for the last couple of weeks.
The rains will continue on Sunday, further pushing the mercury down, which hovered around 40 degrees celsius in the federal capital on Saturday. After the rain, the temperatures have dropped to 26 degrees celsius in Murree.
A rush of tourists is expected on Sunday to the hill station, and electricity loadshedding is likely to decline due to reduced power consumption in the coming days.
Rains were also reported in other parts of North Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Widespread rain, thunderstorm and gusty winds are expected along Sindh’s coast in the coming days due to the influence of cyclone moving towards the Indian state of Gujarat.
The maximum temperature recorded on Saturday was 47 degrees celcius in Dadu, followed by 42 degrees celsius in Faisalabad and Multan, 41 degrees in Lahore, 40 in Gilgit, 39 degrees in Peshawar and Muzaffarabad and 36 degrees celsius in Quetta. — A Reporter
