THIS is apropos of the letter ‘Sukkur in a miserabale state’ (June 10). In some aspects, Sukkur is not as bad as other cities of Sindh. Its infrastructure is good and there are places for visitors. There are also many historic places like the tomb of seven sisters and the minaret of Masoon Shah. Several roads are under construction. The standard of living is good.

However, despite being the third biggest city of Sindh, it doesn’t have good educational institutions.

Unfortunately, the present colleges do not impart quality education with the exception of the Ghulam Mohammad Mahar Medical College. But the quota for the people of Sukkur is quite meagre compared to those for the people from Khairpur and Ghotki.

There are three libraries here where students of arts, commerce, engineering, medical and CSS study. Sadly, they are in poor condition and lack basic facilities like generators and air-conditioners.

The authorities concerned and political leaders of Sukkur should provide the residents of the city universities and colleges while the libraries should be refurbished.
