In the land of ignorance, the streets, markets and homes seem to glitter with all that is plainly not gold – just behind the curtain. Adjacent to the Zamzama area in Karachi known for its razzle and dazzle, is the Neelam Colony which both portray the two shades of life.
The increasing income gap has become a major predicament in our society but will it only get worse over the years or do you believe in the hope for an optimistic future? – Text and photos by Anum Malik and Jia Wei / Dawn.com

now a days even the upper middle class cannot afford the clothes you have shown in the picture above. Now there are only two classes of people- the rich and the poor......there used to be a middle class once upon a time, in a fairy story!!

do you want to know the truth about the shinning shops in the most posh area of Karachi?
who would be in a better position to answer...........being a shop owner myself?
what are the present sales, what are the overheads, what is the take away profit?......
all that shines is not gold!!

a beautiful country of amazingly good people but corrupt politicians and irresponsible dictators has made stupid decisions ruining the rich economy of this country.

Well done ! for portraying the real life images of two contrasting communities of the city .It has brought to attention the aspects which are normally neglected !!
Despite all that ,i feel the future is optimistic as long as people are motivated to work hard to attain a better standard of living.

The point is very well made though one can make a similar set of pictures about e.g. France.
The point of the last picture appears ominous. Prosperity for all will come through development not Jihad

very well done to show both sides of the society....i think we have become so numb to our these things that everyone talks about it and forgets about it....May Allah give us honesty and faith...so we can porvide a better society which will be balanced to our kids...

Yeah I do agree with this that it is not affordable for people to buy expensive cloths from markets as shown in the above pic,but one should accept the fact that this picture indicates hope for all those who can also get an Idea from this, serve their best and come forward for opening their own outlets ..This would help a lot to bring peace and colors to our shattered dreams again and for our optimistic future.

The disparity between the rich and poor is well portrayed through your pictures. Its ironic that with each passing day the gap is increasing.
