LARKANA, June 21: PPP leaders and workers and members of civil society donated blood on Tuesday to mark the 58th birth anniversary of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto.

Special camps were established in hospitals and other places across Sindh to collect blood.

PPP leaders cut cakes and paid tributes to their martyred leader for her services in the cause of the country and democracy and the downtrodden masses.

In Larkana, a large number of workers of the Pakistan People's Party and people from different walks of life thronged the mausoleum of Benazir Bhutto in Garhi Khuda Bakhsh to pay homage on her 58th birth anniversary on Tuesday.

The day started with Quran Khawani followed by distributing food among participants.

Amidst extensive security measures, participants had to cross walk-through gates in the mazar to offer fateha and lay wreaths on the grave of Benazir Bhutto.

It was 44 degree Celsius but admirers and party workers continued pouring in and were seen donating blood at different camps set up by the management of EDO (health) and Chandka Medical College Hospital.

Chanting slogans 'Zindah Hai BiBi Zindah Hai', 'Jeay Bhutto Sada Jeay', Bibi Ham Sharminda Hain, Tery Qatil Zindah Hain', a group of people lit candles with their blood and placed them at the grave.

Over 450 blood bags were collected at the camps of Peoples Doctors Forum (PDF) and health departments, said Dr Asif Gaad of PDF. He said President Asif Ali Zardari donated his blood at the camp office of President House Naudero.

Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah arrived at the mazar along with his cabinet members Pir Mazhar, Ayaz Soomro, Tauqeer Fatima Bhutto, Manzoor Wasan, Sindh Assembly Deputy Speaker Shahila Raza and offered fateha.

Sindh Assembly Speaker Nisar Ahmed Khuhro came with US consulate general William Martin and offered fateha. Farhatullah Babar, spokesman for president, also paid visit to the mausoleum.

President Asif Ali Zardari unveiled a book of 500 pages published by the Sindh information department titled 'Pictorial biography of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto', at the camp office.

The book carries about 1,100 rare photographs of Benazir Bhutto. He also laid the foundation stone of the building of the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education of Larkana and performed opening of Asifa Bhutto Zardari Dental College and the institute of nursing and community health centre the units of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Medical University, Larkana.

Hyderabad :

A function was held at the district council. Quran Khawani was also held and a cake was cut on the occasion

PPP leaders and workers and members of civil society donated blood.

Zahid Ali Bhurgari, Amanullah Siyal and Allah Bachayo Soomro addressed the function.

Later, a cake was cut and sweets and food were distributed.

Fireworks were also displayed at midnight. NAWABSHAH:

A walk was held to create awareness regarding blood donation. It started from DC High School and culminated at the press club.

A camp was organised by the district government in collaboration with Thalassaemia Care Centre at H.M.Khoja Auditorium where a large number of people.

Later, a cake was cut at Zardari House in the presence of workers and supporters of the PPP.

SUKKUR:

Leaders of different wings of the Pakistan Peoples Party and workers donated blood in the Civil Hospital of Jacobabad and camps set up in different areas of Ghotki district.

MIRPURKHAS:

Members of social organisations, government employees, police officials and general public donated blood here on the occasion.

KHAIRPUR:

A blood donation camp has been set up at Naz Pilot High School for three days to mark the 58th birth anniversary.

NAUSHAHRO FEROZE:

Hundreds of women workers the PPP from Mithiani, Tharushah, Moro, Padidan, Bhirya Road, Darya Khan Mari, Mehrabpur, Halani and other parts of the district reached the circuit house of Naushahro Feroze where district PPP president of women wing Shahnaz Ansari and MPA Abdul Haq Bhurt cut a cake.

Later, a procession was taken out which reached the local press club.

DADU:

Activists of the PPP donated blood to mark the birth anniversary in Dadu, Mehar, Johi, Khairpur Nathan Shah, Sehwan and Kotri. .

MITHI:

PPP leaders and activists donated blood in camps established in the civil hospitals and taluka hospitals in Mithi, Diplo, Chhachhro and Nagarparkar..

SHIKARPUR:

A function was held at Bhayo house. A large number of party workers attended it. A blood donation camp was set up in the civil hospital.

People donating blood here included Sindh Minister for Local Bodies Agha Sirajuddin Durrani and Sindh Minister for Housing Agha Taimoor Khan.
