ISLAMABAD, Oct 27: The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) chairperson is expected to meet the US assistant secretary of state, Christina B. Rocca, next week in Washington.

The meeting would focus on the political situation that had emerged out of the split mandate after the Oct 10 elections, party sources said.

Ms Benazir, who was elected as the premier two times in the past, wrote letters to the heads of states, including President Bush, and sought help for the PPP.

On the other hand, PPP parliamentary leader, Makhdoom Amin Fahim, is seeking cooperation of the MMA to form a “government of national consensus”.
