LAHORE, June 26: Supreme Court Bar Association President Asma Jahangir has condemned the recent incident of parading a woman at a public gathering in Haripur district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and demanded immediate steps to stop violence against women.

In a press statement issued here on Sunday, Ms Jahangir termed the incident an inhuman and brutal act and urged the public representatives to come up with effective legislation to check such incidents.

She said though laws pertaining to women-related violence existed, there was no mechanism in the country to implement these laws in their letter and spirit. Ms Jahangir said the government should ensure implementation of these laws.

She said a committee constituted by SCBA was already monitoring the incidents of violence against women, adding the departments concerned should also form such committees to stop such incidents.
