THIS is with reference to letters ‘Sukkur in a miserable state’ (June 10) and ‘Sukkur needs educational institutes’ (June 18).

There is no proper planning regarding the development of various schemes in Sukkur. For instance, the government had constructed the racecourse road of asphalt. Once it was completed, it was dug up after six months for the laying of the sewerage system.Once the sanitation scheme was in place, the debris of the dug up road was dumped, causing traffic jams for two to three hours on a daily basis.

Another portion of the road which originates from the city to the airport road has not been completed since three years.

Contractors, politicians and government officials are involved in the slackness.

It is believed that the total cost allocated to the contractor was about Rs80 million out of which 60 per cent has not been spent on the project. Furthermore, there is no arrangement for solid waste material in the city; heaps of garbage lie along the airport road. The taluka municipal administration is not looking at these loopholes, further deteriorating the poor infrastructure of the city.

I request local representatives to be sincere with the people who have voted and allowed them to become members of the parliament and provincial assembly.
