HYDERABAD: Repercussions of power cut to filter plants of Water and Sanitation Agency (Wasa) by Hesco personnel on Tuesday started to appear in the city as people are complaining about non-availability of water.

Since water supply remained suspended on Monday, it reversed the whole supply cycle and which requires several hours to function in a smooth way.

While the supply was supposed to be restored by Wednesday, Hesco disconnected electric supply to filter plant, reversing the whole cycle again.

Reports from different areas are pouring in with complaints of water shortage and people are out on streets to get water from sub-soil water being obtained through boring system which were installed to enable people to get water through hand pumps.

According to former MPA Abdul Rehman Rajput, Hirabad, where his residence is located, is not getting water. “We have two underground and overhead storage tanks. They are filled to capacity. He added that the hand pump connected to the tanks is the only source of water for people of the area.

“People from all age groups, including elderly and teenagers are coming to the hand pump with utensils in their hands to fetch water”, he said. Shopkeeper Mohammad Ali, who is also resident of Hirabad, made a similar complaint.

Former MPA Dr Arif Razmi, who lives in 7-C area of Latifabad-7, said that his area which gets two supplies in the day didn’t get water in evening today.

Former union council Nazim from Fakir Ka Pir area, Abdul Rauf Jafri, said that no water was being supplied to his area.

Tail-end areas of the city like American Quarter, Islamabad Mohallah, Lal Quarters, Unit-12 Latifabad, Amani Shah Colony, Rehman Town, Hali road and Hashmat Bano town are a severe shortage as they are affected even during normal course of water supply by Wasa.—Staff Correspondent
