SWABI, July 11: Six people, including three women, were killed and six others were injured in two separate incidents here on Monday.
Police said a speeding tractor-trolley, bearing No FDH-8441, knocked down people who were waiting for public transport on Adina bus stop on Swabi-Mardan road.
Eyewitnesses said as a result of the accident, two women and a child were killed on the bus stop and another woman succumbed to her injuries while on way to hospital in Peshawar.
The deceased women were identified as Janat Bibi and Fazilat Bibi while the name of the third woman could not be confirmed. The child was Abdul Basit. All the four victims belonged to Adina village.
Those who were injured included Ameen Saeed, Razim Khan, Arshad Ali, Imran Khan and Shah Fahad. Doctors said two of the injured people were in serious condition.
Police said the driver of the tractor, Lal Khan, belonging to Ismalia, managed to escape. However, the tractor-trolley was taken in custody by the police and an FIR was registered against him.
Meanwhile, a man and his son were shot dead in Mal Lara (Swabi adda) area when two rival groups exchanged fire over a piece of land. Sher Alam was killed on the spot while his son, Mohammad Younas, was referred to the Lady Reading Hospital, Peshawar where he succumbed to injuries. Iftikhar Khan from the rival party was injured and taken to Peshawar due to his serious condition.
Both the groups have registered FIR against each other in the city police station. BEST TEACHER:
Dr Mohammad Junaid Mughal, Dean, Faculty of Electronic Engineering, at Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute of Engineering Sciences and Technology, has been selected by the Higher Education Commission (HEC) for the 'best university teachers award 2010'.
The HEC has selected 57 senior faculty members out of 118 nominations received from 60 universities and degree awarding institutions of the country. The award is conferred on university teachers to honour their dedicated efforts to improve academic environment throughout the year.
The award will be conferred upon him in a commemorative award ceremony scheduled to be held today (Tuesday) at the HEC Auditorium, Islamabad.
Dr Mughal did his MSc and M.Phil in Electronics from Quaid-i-Azam University, Islamabad and PhD from Birmingham University, UK.
