KARACHI, July 14: Tahir Iftikhar, a former Davis Cupper, came back from behind to get the better of Hyderabad’s Saad Baloch in three sets to advance in men’s singles event of the Sindh Open ranking tennis championship at Modern Club.
Tahir, who is here on holidays from Kuwait, conceded the opener 1-6 only to bounce back to win the following two sets 6-1, 6-1 against his opponent to complete the last eight line-up.
Meanwhile, law and order situation compelled the organisers to put off the Thursday’s schedule of matches for a day.
Uroosa Ahmed, Hania Naveed and Neha Khan chalked up emphatic victories over their rivals to step into ladies singles quarters Wednesday evening. According to organisers, 13 women’s have entered the contest.
Uroosa whipped Tooba 6-2, 6-1 while Hania blanked Ukasha 6-0, 6-0. In the third match, Neha was home 7-6, 6-4 against Hajra Nadeem.
The quarter-final of top seed Aqeel Khan against Abdul Rehman has been rescheduled for Friday at 9.30am.
