KARACHI: The first edition of Aisam-ul-Haq Masters Tennis Championship begins today at PTF Complex in Islamabad. The tournament is scheduled to conclude on July 22.

“We are organizing this tournament in order to start the tradition of giving tribute to our living legends,” Pakistan Tennis Federation (PTF) Vice President Irshad Bhatti told PPI.

Bhatti said that PTF had decided to honour Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi for his great achievements in international arena by organizing this tournament.

He added that PTF would try to make this tournament an international spectacle next year in its second edition and would invite international teams to participate.

According to the PTF official, the country’s top male and female players will be seen in action during the tournament, which would offer a hefty purse. The winner of men’s event will cash Rs 110,000, while runner-up would bag Rs 65,000.

The semifinalists will receive Rs 25000 each and quarter-finalists will receive 10,000.

The winner of the women’s event will earn Rs 55,000 and the runner-up Rs 30,000.
