GILGIT, July 23: The Vice-Chancellor of Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) Dr Nazir Sangi has said a campus of the university will be established in Gilgit at a cost of Rs30 million.

Talking to here on Saturday he said the AIOU had played a pivotal role in promoting education in Gilgit-Baltistan and other remote parts of the county.

Mr Nazir disclosed that negotiations with government regarding setting up a full-fledge campus in the region had concluded, saying, the campus would include hostels for girls and library as well. He said the AIOU was focusing on improving quality of education especially among women.

The AIOU VC said curriculum improvement was top priority of the university.

TEACHING DUTIES: The Gilgit-Baltistan inspector general of police has directed policemen to perform teaching duties in various schools apart from their professional duties.

An official said the directives were aimed at inculcating zeal of public service in the force.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Syed Mehdi Shah instructed the police chief to investigate the recruitment of constables, after he received complaints that some superintendents of police had made recruitments without following the laid out procedure. — Correspondent
