LAHORE, July 24: The PML-N is considering elevating Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif’s MNA son Hamza Shahbaz to the rank of general-secretary of the party’s Punjab chapter.

A senior PML-N leader told Dawn that at an informal consultative meeting, the party leadership had been given a positive report about Hamza’s political astuteness but he would be elevated to the important slot only if Shahbaz Sharif was not made president of the provincial chapter.

Elections to various offices of the party are scheduled to take place on July 27 in which Nawaz Sharif is set to be re-elected central president after around a decade, while former finance and foreign minister Sartaj Aziz is most likely to become central general-secretary, a post he had earlier held in 1992.
