THIS is apropos of the news item ‘Water expert proposes barrage dam near Attock’ (July 18).

According to the report, Engineer Fatehullah Khan Gandapur proposes a barrage comprising a 100-foot-high dam and 50/60-foot-high barrage on top of the dam which would give full reservoir level of 850 to 860 feet above sea level. These numbers seem to be wrong.

The combined height of the dam and the barrage is 150 to 160 feet and when this height is subtracted from the full reservoir, it gives a river bed level of about 700 feet.

I understand that the bed of the Indus at the proposed site of the Kalabagh dam is 700 feet. Does it mean Engineer Gandapur is proposing his barrage-dam in Mianwali district and not near Attock?
