The Hindu festival of “Gathemangal”, also known as Ghanta Karna, in Bhaktapur on the outskirts of Kathmanducelebrates the defeat of the mythical demon Ghanta Karna (“bell-ears”). According to legend, the demon is believed to “steal” children and women from their homes and localities. By performing the legendary drama in the streets, the festival is celebrated to wards off evil spirits, and bring peace and prosperity. -Photos by agencies
