CHARSADDA, Aug 7: Thousands of girl students in Shabqadar tehsil of the district say goodbye to education every year after passing the intermediate examinations as there is no degree college for girls in the area.

They residents of the area regret that in this era of science and technology there is no degree college for girls in Shabqadar, having a population of more than 600,000.

“Thousands of intelligent girl students are deprived of education every ear despite the fact they pass intermediate examinations with high marks,” they add.

A large number of girl students can't afford to go to Charsadda and Peshawar for further education, mainly because of cultural restrictions and party owing to financial constrains.

“On one hand, our culture and traditions don't allow womenfolk to travel alone in public transport vehicles while on the other poor students can't afford huge transport fares,” the locals say.

They say that besides locals, hundreds of girls from the border areas of Mohmand tribal agency also come to Shabqadar to get education. “But every year these girls quit education owing to lack of college for them in the area,” they add.

Akbar, a resident of the area, says that it is matter of concern for those, who claim to make education free for all and increase literacy rate, particularly among womenfolk. The deprivation of thousands of girls from their basic right of getting education is a challenge not only for the rulers but also for the people of the area, he adds.
