MINGORA: ID cards issuance delayed

Published November 8, 2002

MINGORA, Nov 7: The National Database Registration Authority (Nadra) has failed to come up to the people’s expectations about the issuance of new computerized national identity cards within the stipulated period.

The people have been complaining frequently against the Nadra, saying that the cards were being delayed for unknown reason.

It was told that a majority of the people were now depending on the new cards, who were not issued visas and other documents without it. It was also reported that the cards so far issued were also full of mistakes.

Some of the residents of Saidu Sharif, Inayatullah, Umer Ali, Saadat, Fazal Rawan, Mujahid and Subhani told that they had been visiting the Nadra offices for months but could not obtain their cards.

It was also reported that a majority of the people, especially in the rural areas, were unable to cast their votes in the recently held general elections due to non-availability of the ID cards.
