KARACHI, Aug 29: The Sindh chapter of the Awami National Party on Monday urged the Muttahida Qaumi Movement to explain its position before the media regarding its alleged involvement in the killings of Pakhtuns, one of the many allegations levelled against it by former home minister Dr Zulfikar Mirza during his press conference on Sunday.
A meeting of the ANP, chaired by provincial President Shahi Syed, took note of Dr Mirza's statement pertaining to the killings of Pakhtuns and termed it a serious matter.
“It is a very serious allegation against the MQM leadership and caused anxiety among the Pakhtuns,” the ANP said, urging the MQM leadership to explain their stance before the media.
The meeting urged the judiciary, parliament and security agencies to call the former minister to ascertain the facts regarding the allegations made by him against the MQM.
Describing the ongoing operation as one-sided since it only targeted Pakhtun and Baloch localities, the meeting called for ending “no-go areas” in the city and demanded that the operation against criminals be continued till it reached its logical conclusion. The meeting also expressed its concern over the arrests of innocent persons during the recent search operations.
