LAHORE, Aug 30: The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) has submitted a requisition to the Punjab Assembly to raise the issue of abduction of slain governor Salman Taseer’s son Shahbaz Taseer. The PPP legislators following in the footsteps of the PML-Q also mentioned in the requisition signed by 103 PPP legislators a demand for creation of a new province, south Punjab.

After submitting the requisition, PPP Punjab deputy parliamentary leader Shaukat Basra told reporters on Tuesday that the Shahbaz Sharif government had failed to recover Taseer’s son. After the assassination of Mr Salman Taseer, Sharif should have provided the slain governor’s family members proper security.

Mr Basra said his party would also raise the issue of deteriorating law and order situation in the province.

DEMO: The PPP workers on Tuesday held a demonstration outside the Lahore Press Club against the Punjab government’s “callous” attitude in the safe recovery of Shahbaz Taseer.

Federal minister Samina Khalid Ghurki led the demonstration. PPP Punjab secretary-general Samiullah Khan, deputy secretary-general Usman Malik, Lahore secretary-general Akbar Khan and women’s wing Lahore chapter president Faiza Malik were also present.
