HYDERABAD, Sept 5: Rain hit Hyderabad city on Monday and continued intermittently. No casualty was reported. Accumulation of rainwater on main roads and low lying areas created difficulties for people.

The downpour multiplied to the miseries of farmers who had already suffered substantial losses to their Kharif crops. Power supply to the city remained normal except for tripping of two feeders.Hesco spokesman claimed that poles connected with Sann and Pithoro feeder came down suspending power supply to many areas. Wires also fell in Mithi, Sanghar, Badin and Chhachhro affecting supply to these areas.

NAWABSHAH: A man was killed and many others injured in rain-related incidents in the district on Monday.

Mohan Lal Kolhi resident of village Haji Meehan Khan Rind died of electrocution whereas a number of other persons were injured in various incidents in different parts of district.

Relief activities were being carried out in the city and adjoining areas but the pace was slow due to shortage of manpower and other facilities.

Officials were unable to handle the situation because of unexpected disaster, unavailability of technical expertise and machinery to drain out water from the town.

Machinery had also been obtained from the district government Karachi and efforts were underway for draining out water from the main town.

Coordinator to MNA Faryal Talpur, Ziaul Hassan Lanjar told journalists that efforts were being made to provide relief to affected people and rehabilitate them in view of heavy rain which would take time to stop. He said tents, foods and other goods were being distributed throughout the district.

There were however a large number of places including Lashari, Meehan Khan Rind, Qurban Rind and others villages where no relief goods or tents could be provided so far.

Meanwhile people protested in different parts of the district including Daur road, Landhi, Peoples chowk, DCO office, press club and the National Highway against the non-provision of relief goods. Protesters chanted slogans, burnt tyres and demanded immediate relief.

A number of villages including Sono Sher, Syed Qasim Shah, Kharjani, Khan Zaman Shaikh and Razi Lashari were inundated after a breach developed in Sim Nullah at Adil Lashari village near Qazi Ahmed and people moved to safer places.

The MQM MNA Tayyab Hassan and zonal Incharge Shiraz Masood also visited the affected areas and assured them full help.

Traders of Nawabshah Abdul Qayoom Qureshi, Haji Aslam Shaikh, Nadir Mirza, Atta Moin Ajmeri and others demanded of the authorities to direct the TMA to make arrangements for removal of water from markets.

MIRPURKHAS: Intermittent rain in the district inundated many localities and roads with hundreds of people shifted to government buildings. Some three to five feet of rain and sewerage water was standing in many areas.

Officials of the TMA Mirpurkhas were draining out rain water through pumping machines but the incessant rain kept increasing the miseries of people living in makeshift shelter.

Water pressure increased in Puran Nullah near Jhuddo while residents kept a vigil in their areas. Traffic remained suspended between Jhuddo and Mirpurkhas after inundation of Jhuddo Tando Jan Mohammad road.

People were waiting for ration and tents.

Intermittent rainfall was reported from Mirpurkhas, Sindhri, Hussain Bux Mari, Digri, Mirwah Gorchani, Tando Jan Mohammad, Jhuddo, Naukot, Kot Ghulam Mohammad, Jhillori and other areas.

SANGHAR: Sanghar and Khipro received rain. Khadhar canal developed 20-feet wide breach near Sarhari as a result of which 10 villages came under water. Residents of Khuda Bux Khoso, Hussain Zardari, Mevo Zardari and Sadiq Arain villages were shifted to safer places along the road sides. Water over-topped the main railway track near village Sadiq Arain.

BADIN: Badin and its adjoining areas received heavy rain. The rain started at 4.10pm and continued for over 20 minutes which added to the miseries of people already facing natural calamity.

Meanwhile, electricity went off after the rain and could not be restored for four hours.
