LARKANA, Nov 8: The plan to establish 210 community-supported schools in Larkana district had been delayed due to failure of officials concerned to provide a list of villages, sources said.

According to sources, the idea, floated by the education department, Larkana, was approved by the district government.

The Sindh education department earmarked Rs280,000 for the project and also proposed to extend the plan to the entire Sindh, for which a province-wide study was conducted and another handsome amount was placed at the disposal of the Larkana education department.

In mid Oct, the district education officer, Larkana, gave go ahead signal to initiate work on the plan and directed the district officer, education, elementary, to prepare a list of villages, where the community supported schools could be established, sources said.

The plan of recruitment of local teachers was announced through advertisement and even written examinations of the candidates were also conducted, the sources said, but nothing further was done in this respect.

As a result the funds are lying unutilized with the education department, Larkana, according to sources.

RALLY: Around 100 villagers, led by some councillors of different union councils, on Friday staged a march from Mahota to Larkana to protest against the killing of councillor Ghulam Serwar Zangejo.

The 8km-long march culminated at Jinnabagh here, where the leaders of the protesters made speeches.

Councillors Ghulam Murtaza Korai, Badruddin Bhatti and Shahid Jatoi alleged that the killers of Zangejo were roaming free in Sukkur.

They criticized the Sukkur police for its failure to arrest the murder accused and demanded their early arrest.

BURNT: A woman, Sughran, wife of Mohammed Ali Mallah, with 90 per cent burns, was admitted to the Chandka Medical College Hospital here on Friday.

According to the members of her family, she locked herself in a room of her house in Kausar Mills locality after she had a quarrel with her in-laws over some domestic issue.

They said that she sprinkled kerosene on her body and set herself on fire.

The inmates broke the door on her cries and saw her wrapped in flames. They immediately shifted her to the CMCH where the doctors said that she had received 90 per cent burns.

She was later removed to Karachi in serious condition as the facilities of treating burn victims are not available at the CMCH, which is the biggest hospital of upper Sindh.
