KARACHI: Bahrain Billiards and Snooker Association (PBSA) has extended an invitation to Pakistan for bilateral Pre-World Cup Snooker series in December, Pakistan Billiards and Snooker Association (PBSA) announced here on Tuesday.

“Yes we have received an invitation for the series and we are working on it,” PBSA Chief Alamgir Shaikh told APP in an interview. This will be a good series for cueists, he added.

“However we are yet to confirm to the host country about our participation,” he said.

He said Bahrain Billiards Snooker Association has offered free boarding and lodging for players and officials.

He said dates, format, duration and details of the test series will be decided during consultation between the sport officials of the two countries.

Alamgir Shaikh said they (PBSA) may be sending three cueists and an official for the trip.

He said if confirmed it will be a good series for Pakistan team as it will be a good build-up for the players before the global event in China.

PBSA President said Pakistan will be holding two national-ranking events in October and November apart from 6-Red Ball events and a two-member Pakistan team will be finalised after the third ranking competition in October.

He expressed hope that Pakistan will be able to raise a good team for the series against Bahrain and for the world championship.

Barring a major surprise, former Asian Championship runner-up, Imran Shahzad, Muhammad Sajjad, Shahid Aftab and Sohail Shahzad are strong contenders to secure berths in the Pakistan team for world championship.
