ABBOTTABAD, Sept 8: Another team of journalists was taken into custody by police on Thursday for being in the area where the so-called Osama bin Laden compound is located.

The vehicle of a China Television team comprising Mr Chan and two Pakistani journalists — Saad Gul of Islamabad and Mohammad Bilal of Rawalpindi — was intercepted when they were trying to drive towards the compound for making a video.

The Pakistani journalists were handed over to Nawan Sher police and the Chinese journalist was allowed to stay in a local hotel but asked to leave Abbottabad because he had not obtained permission to visit the area, an official said.

He said the Pakistani members of the team were in protective custody and would be released after 'clearance'.

This was the third consecutive day when law-enforcement personnel detained foreigners and national media personnel. A high-ranking Danish diplomat and his wife were also briefly detained. They were told to leave the town because they did not have proper travel documents.

The local media persons have been detained for entering a 'no go' area.
