ABBOTTABAD, Sept 14: The commission investigating the raid by US special forces personnel on a compound in Abbottabad where Al Qaeda chief Osama bin Laden was hiding recorded statements of at least 30 people, including senior officials, here on Wednesday.
The commission, which is on a three-day visit to Abbottabad, spent a busy day, recording statements of officials.
Those who appeared before the commission and got their statements recorded included Hazara DIG Dr Naeem, SNGPL Regional Manager Naseer Feroz, Torghar district DCO Fareed Khan, SSP (investigations) Mina Raza, PTCL general manager Usman Ali Khan, Torghar DRO Abdul Ghafoor, 13 Khasadars and 12 employees of the revenue department. Two army officers — Col Arshad and Col Khalid — also appeared before the commission.
Talking to journalists on Tuesday night, the chairman of the commission, Justice (retd) Javed Iqbal, had said that at least 500 people had approached the commission for getting their statements recorded. He said that complete security and protection would be provided to people appearing before the commission. Justice Iqbal said that the commission was the second most important commission after the Justice Hamoodur Rehman Commission and it would dig deep to find facts and would submit its report to the government.
It may be mentioned here that SNGPL, revenue department and other government departments have already submitted complete details about the owner of the house as electricity and gas connections were installed there.
