ISLAMABAD: Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has reminded the legislators to submit their Statement of Assets by September 15, otherwise their membership may be suspended.

Only 262 legislatures out of a total of 1180 have so far submitted their Statement of Assets and liabilities, a spokesman of ECP said on Monday.

Talking to APP, he said ECP has fixed September 30 as the last date for submission of statements of assets and liabilities of legislators and their dependents. It is a mandatory requirement under Section 42A of the Representation of the People Act, 1976 and Section 25A of the Senate (Elections) Act, 1975.

The ECP has decided to suspend the membership of the defying legislators from October 15, he said.

He said out of 100 Senators only 25 have so far submitted their statements of assets. While of the 342 MNAs only 57 have submitted the statements.

Similarly, out of the total 371 Punjab Assembly legislators only 71 have submitted statement of assets. Only 63 legislators from among the 168 Sindh Assembly have so far submitted their statements of assets.

Likewise out of a total of 134 legislators of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa only 34 have submitted statement of assets. While 12 members of Balochistan Assembly having a strength of 65 have submitted their statements of assets, he said.

Urging the legislators to submit statements of assets and liabilities he said the prescribed forms are available, free of charge, from the Election Commission Secretariat, Islamabad and offices of Provincial Election Commissions in each province.

Forms are also being sent to the Senate Secretariat, National Assembly Secretariat and Secretariats of all the four Provincial Assemblies for the facility of the members, he said.
