LAHORE, Oct 1: A young boy died at Mayo Hospital on Saturday -- six days after he was administered injection at a private clinic at Qilla Gujjar Singh main bazaar.
The police said Muhammad Anwar, 18, resident of Mohalla Osmania-abad died a day after his one arm was cut by doctors fearing that poison might penetrated in the entire body.
A case under Section 322 (Punishment for Qatl Bis-sabab) of the Pakistan Penal Code was registered against a doctor and his compounder on the complaint of the victim’s brother.
Investigation Officer Ahsaan Hashmi told Dawn that Anwar was brought to the clinic of Capt Dr Attaullah Khan (retired) on Sept 26 and was administered an injection which led to non-functioning of his arm the very next day.
He said Dr Khan referred the victim to a hospital on Sept 27, adding Anwar was admitted to Mayo Hospital where his one arm was removed by doctors on Sept 30. The IO said the victim died of poisoning effects.
He said the doctor and his staff absconded three days ago after the family of a 12-year boy, who also took treatment at the same clinic and was later admitted to Mayo Hospital for deteriorating health condition, lodged a protest against wrong treatment.
He said another two patients, who got treatment at the same clinic, were admitted to Mayo Hospital in the last few days. He said the police had started conducting raids to arrest the suspects who were still at large.
