LADDHA, Oct 4: A soldier was killed when a missile hit a security checkpost in Tiarza tehsil of South Waziristan on Tuesday while in North Waziristan unidentified armed men torched a roadside hotel near Kajori area.

Sources said that the missile, one of three fired by suspected militants from an unknown location, hit the checkpost in Mazaki area of Tiarza tehsil, killing the soldier Azizullah.

In the other incident, masked men set ablaze a roadside hotel near Gomal Zam Project site. Sources said that a group of militants stormed Pakistan Hotel near Kajori. They tied the hands of hotel owner, Botal Khan Wazir Zalikhel, and set his hotel on fire.

Common passengers and army personnel used to stay briefly at the hotel. The road has recently been carpeted by security forces as most of the link roads in the area have been left incomplete owing to dispute between Mehsud and Wazir tribes. Almost all vehicles ply on this road nowadays to reach Wana and other areas of Waziristan tribal region.

Meanwhile, a government school for girls was blown up in Benai Baba area of Shangla district on Tuesday.

The locals said that it was the first incident of its kind in the district. They said that suspected militants planted improvised explosive devices at government middle school for girls in Dawlat Kallay on the night between Monday and Tuesday. The devices went of with a big bang and destroyed two rooms and headmaster office of the six-room building.

The record and furniture of the school were also destroyed. The security personnel and police reached the scene of occurrence in the morning. The locals have demanded early reconstruction of the school.

In Khyber Agency, officials said that unidentified persons targeted two Nato containers with remote controlled bombs, planted at roadside in Jamrud tehsil.

They said that the first incident took place near Wazir Dhand while the other on Jamrud bypass road early on Wednesday morning. However, the vehicles remained undamaged in both the attacks as they were at a distance when the hidden devices exploded.
