LAHORE, Oct 5: The Punjab government through two appeals has challenged acquittal of five accused in Sialkot lynching case and sought conversion of life imprisonment into death sentence to six of the convicts.
Additional prosecutor general Abdul Samad filed the appeals on behalf of the government and submitted that the convicts who had been awarded life term by the trial court were the key culprits in the case and they might be given death sentence.
In appeal against acquittal of six persons, he said the prosecution had produced ample evidence against them as they were directly linked with the incident of killing of two brothers Muneeb and Mughees.
The prosecutor prayed to the court to accept the government's appeal and punish them (the acquitted) accordingly. — Staff Reporter
