SWABI, Oct 6: The heavy downpour and hailstorm, which lashed Swabi on the second consecutive day on Thursday, damaged standing crops and vegetables.

The hailstones and heavy rains were recorded in Topi, Maini, residential colonies of Tarbela Dam, Himlet, Kotha, Yar Hussain, Dobian, Shewa Adda, Karnal Sher Kili, Bamkhel, Batakara, Tandkohi, Kalabat, Baja, Charbagh, Sheikh Jana, Kalu Khan and some regions of Chota Lahor tehsil. The damage to standing crops was caused in Chota Lahor region and a number of areas of Topi tehsil.

Leaders of Anjuman-i-Kashtkaran and Kisan Board said that maize and sugarcane crops had been badly damaged by the thunder and hailstorms.

However, the rain also brought a pleasant change in the weather giving power outage-hit people a sigh of relief. The rain also marked the end of the summer and advent of the winter season.

PROLONG OUTAGE: Consumers of the Sheikh Jana region have got power supply only for four hours during the last 39 hours.

The residents said the power supply was suspended at 10am on Wednesday and was resumed at 12 midnight. The supply was again suspended at 3am, resuming at 12pm on Thursday, which was again suspended at 1pm. And till filing of this report there was no electricity in the region.

The consumers accused the Pesco staff of absolving of their responsibility by claiming that fault developed in the main line had caused power suspension.
