KARACHI: Pakistan’s sailors/wind surfers Mohammad Sajjad (PAF) and Raja Qasim Abbas Rathore (Navy) have won four races in a row in the Mistral (light) and Mistral (heavy) sailing event in the ongoing first South Asian Beach Games in Hambantota, Sri Lanka.

According to Pakistan Sailing Federation (PSAF) Secretary General Commander (retd) Noor Ul Islam, they have a good chance of winning gold after Monday’s performance.

“Our team of Sajjad and Rathore won one race on Sunday and three more on Monday with hosts Sri Lanka close behind. There are a total of 11 races/rounds in the event to determine the winners but the straight wins have increased Pakistan’s chances of picking up the gold medal here,” Commander Noor told Dawn over the phone from Sri Lanka on Monday.

“Even if we don’t win Tuesday’s race, we will still be leading in the event,” he added.

With their eye set on the next Asian Games gold medal, the PSAF is hoping for best results at the Beach Games.
