QUETTA: A division bench of the Balochistan High Court granted time sought by investigators of the crimes branch on Wednesday to submit the arrest warrant of former president Pervez Musharraf in the Nawab Akbar Bugti murder case.

The investigation team submitted a report stating that the arrest warrants of MPA Mir Shoaib Nausherwani and other accused had been obtained from a judicial magistrate.

The bench comprising Chief Justice Qazi Faez Issa and Justice Abdul Qadir Mengal, hearing a petition filed by Nawabzada Jamil Akbar Bugti, asked why the warrants of Mr Musharraf and other important accused could not be obtained.

An investigation official said the former president was outside the country and the government had been requested to take steps for his extradition.

The report included faxed copies of the recorded statements of former governor Owais Ghani and former federal minister Aftab Sherpao but the court asked the investigators to file the original statements during the next hearing on Nov 1.

The petitioner’s counsel and the advocate general said the statements did not have legal validity.
