ISLAMABAD, Oct 13: The commission investigating the May 2 US commando operation in Abbottabad that left Al Qaeda chief Osama bin Laden dead met here for the third consecutive day on Thursday and summoned the wife of Abu Ahmad Al-Kuwaiti, an Al Qaeda member and courier of Bin Laden.

Sources said the commission, headed by Justice (retd) Javed Iqbal, believed that Al-Kuwaiti's wife could help determine since when Osama bin Laden and his family had been living in the area.

She is said to be in protective custody of the security agencies and will be presented before the commission during its next meeting on Monday.

According to media reports, some US officials said American forces were led to Osama bin Laden by his most-trusted courier, a Kuwaiti-born man named Sheikh Abu Ahmed. Ahmed was a shadowy figure for US intelligence.

For a long time, intelligence officials knew him only by his nom de guerre, Abu Ahmed Al-Kuwaiti.

The meeting of the commission was attended by Abbas Khan, former Inspector General of Police, Ashraf Jehangir Qazi and Lt-Gen (retd) Nadeem Ahmed.

The commission also sought details of families of all foreign nationals belonging to Al Qaeda and who had been arrested in Pakistan.

The commission also conducted an exhaustive interview of adjutant general (GHQ) of Rawalpindi and former/sitting home secretaries of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The adjutant general informed the commission role/functions of his organisation, charter of duties and its mandate, including his perspective of the Abbottabad operation.

He also briefed the commission on some changes made within the army in the wake of the May 2 US operation.

The sitting and former home secretaries of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa also gave their viewpoints on the Abbottabad operation.
