MARDAN, Nov 10: The enraged residents of Mayar village ransacked a police post and torched a motorcar and two motorcycles to protest the killing of a local youth allegedly by the law enforcers.

The youth identified as Nadeem Shah was allegedly shot dead by officials of Mayar police when he was returning from a wedding ceremony on the night between Wednesday and Thursday.

The death triggered violent protest in the area and infuriated villagers took to the streets. They chanted slogans against police and held them responsible for the killing of the youth.

They placed the body of the youth on Mayar Road and blocked it for all kinds of traffic. They demanded stern action against the police officials, who opened firing on the youth. They threatened to continue their protest if their demand was not met.

The protesting villagers also pelted stones at police that led to clashes between law enforcers and the residents of the area.The protesters torched a motorcar and two motorcycles of police and destroyed the furniture of the post, situated on Mayar Road. They also damaged the building of the police post.

The protesters dispersed peacefully when Hoti police station arrested and registered FIR against a policeman identified as Bakhtyar Khan for opening firing on the youth.

However, officials of Mayar police post said that they opened firing on Naeem Shah when he ignored their signal and did not stop. They said that a pistol was also recovered from him.
