KOHAT, Nov 13: The law enforcement agencies arrested eight alleged terrorists during a raid at Shindhand camp of Afghan refugees in Kohat district near the tribal area on Sunday.

Police said that they received information that a group of militants was intimidating tribal families, who were fleeing their homes owing to attacks on their vehicles on Shindhad Road.

The Bilitang police accompanied by commandoes raided the refugees camp in Shindhand. The law enforcers asked eight armed men, present there, to surrender but they started running and threatened to open firing on the policemen.

After a chase the eight men handed themselves over to police. Police seized six Kalashnikovs and two light machine guns from their possession.

They were shifted to Bilitang police station and then given in the custody of investigation team. The security forces also came to help police and launched a search operation in the area. The operation was in progress till filing of this report.

In Bajaur Agency, security forces arrested five suspects and defused two landmines during a search operation in Mamond tehsil on Sunday. Officials said that security forces launched an operation after a roadside bomb exploded during patrolling of soldiers in Tarkho area of Mamond tehsil. Nobody was injured in the blast. Security forces blocked Inayat Kallay-Lagharae Road to traffic after the incident and launched search operation.

During the search, they recovered two landmines and defused them. They also arrested five suspects during the operation.

In Kurram Agency, bomb disposal squad defused a time bomb planted under a bridge on Sunday.

Security forces and bomb disposal squad rushed to the area after receiving information that a bomb was planted under a bridge in Khar Kallay. They defused the bomb and launched a search operation in the area.

Sources said that security forces arrested two suspects with the help of sniffer dogs during the search operation in Mero Kass area after recovery of the bomb.—Dawn Report
