HYDERABAD, Nov 14: A large number of civil society and political activists took out a procession here on Monday to condemn the killing of three Hindus in Chak village of Shikarpur district last week.

The procession, which was taken out under the banner of “Joint Action Committee for Peace and Justice”, started from Basant Hall and terminated at the press club after marching on main city roads.

Those who led the rally included Awami Tehrik chief Rasool Bakhsh Palijo, civil society activists Punhal Sario, Zulfiqar Shah, Mustafa Baloch and Ms Amar Sindhu.

They condemned the killing of Dr Ajeet, Naresh Kumar and Ashok Kumar, terming the triple murder a conspiracy to intimidate well-to-do Hindus into leaving Sindh.

In a declaration the committee said the enemies of democracy were trying to destroy the province's Sufi culture because Sindhis believed in non-violence, tolerance, brotherhood and democracy.

Anti-Sindh elements were trying to strengthen banditry and tribal culture in the province, the declaration alleged.

“An unholy alliance between tribal chiefs and religious elements is terrorising the Hindu community to force it to migrate from Sindh,” the Joint Action Committee alleged.

It called upon the administration to take measures for protecting the life and property of Hindus.

The committee suggested framing of a law to prohibit the conversion of Hindu girls and their forced marriage through madressahs. It also called for bringing to justice the tribal chiefs who were harbouring kidnappers of Hindus.

The declaration said basic amendments should be made in the Constitution to ensure equal rights to minorities.
