QEA 2011-12

KARACHI: Karachi Whites needed just 75 minutes on the final day before romping to a comprehensive innings and 151-run victory over Multan in the Quaid-i-Azam Trophy National Cricket Championship Division II game at the NBP Sports Complex here on Tuesday.

Multan, who were 47-3 on Monday evening, added only 32 runs to be all out for 79 in 35.4 overs. Paceman Tabish Khan took his season’s tally to 46 by claiming 4-28 (match bag of 8-86) in the second innings. He was ably supported by medium-pacer Ali Mudassar (3-27) and slow left-armer Faraz Ahmed Khan 3-15. Faraz finished with match figures of 8-74.

The win, Karachi Whites’ fifth, took their tally of points to 45 in six matches with SNGPL third on net run-rate since they also the same number of points.

Peshawar, however, still are on top in Division II with 51 points after chalking up a five-wicket win over Khan Research Laboratories (KRL) at the Arbab Niaz Stadium. The home, who initially needed 302, lost four more wickets after starting the fourth and final day at 154-1 with skipper Akbar Badshah (72 not out) leading the way after opener Israrullah added only 10 runs to his overnight score of 78.

SNGPL annihilated Lahore Ravi by an innings and 120 runs at the Gaddafi Stadium. The Ravians, who were 25-2 overnight, stumbled to 129 all out in the second innings. Their wrecker-in-chief was pacer Asad Ali who captured 5-36 to finish with impressive match bag of 10 for 88.

Hyderabad coach Tauseef Ahmed was a delighted man as his charges finally repaid his hard work by securing their first victory this season – a four-wicket success against Lahore Shalimar at the LCCA Ground.

Inspired by captain Mir Ali Talpur’s fine 67 not out, Hyderabad didn’t lose a wicket on the last day as they successfully chased a target of 162 after resuming at 74-6.

Quetta took three points after hanging on grimly for a draw against United Bank at the National Cricket Ground in Islamabad. Chasing 197, Quetta reached 124-7 in their second innings when the match ended.
