KARACHI: Former national champion Mohammad Asif, the seventh seed, fought tooth and nail while shocking country’s top cueist Imran Shahzad 6-5 to make it to the final of the Del Monte fourth ranking snooker cup at the Southend Club on Saturday.

Asif came back from 1-4 down to turn the tables on his opponent 63-22, 15-51, 47-77, 1-65, 6-72, 81-12, 74-0, 53-49, 22-63, 70-69, 87-0 in the four hour first semi-final.

He now meets 10th seed Sharjeel Mehmood, who coasted to 6-3 victory over two-time former national champion Mohammad Sajjad in the other pre-final. The former won the battle 1-95, 73-0, 33-65, 47-46, 87-22, 1-65, 71-36, 55-35, 108-0.

Sunday’s fixtures: Final at 10am: M. Asif (Punjab) v Sharjeel Mehmood (Khyber Pakhtunkhwa) (best of 15 frames).
