KARACHI, Nov 29: Four players, including top three seeds, completed the semi-final quartet in the men’s singles of the Saeed Hai national ranking tennis championship at the Karachi Gymkhana on Tuesday.

Top seed Aqeel Khan carved out 6-2, 6-2 victory over Peshawar’s Irfanullah while his sibling second seed Yasir Khan overcame Lahore’s Usman Rafiq 6-3, 6-4. Third seed M. Abid Mushtaq, also from Lahore, whipped Khalid Ali Nazar 6-2, 6-3 whereas former Davis Cupper Nomi Qamar send fourth seed Imran Shoukat packing 6-2, 6-2.Aqeel is drawn to meet Nomi while Abid faces Yasir in the two semi-finals on Wednesday.

The ladies singles also commenced on Tuesday with 11 women vying for honours.

Meanwhile, unseeded Nazif Ahmed, who stunned second seed Muzammil Murtaza in three sets the other day, made exit losing straight to Dawer Rehan 4-6, 4-6.

Those joined Dawer in the last four were Nofil Kaleem, Mudassir Murtaza and Go Mazher.

Nofil, meanwhile, has lodged a written protest against Mudassir for verification of his (Mudassir’s) age.

“We’ll take him to Aga Khan Hospital on Wednesday for wrist test to help determine his age,” tournament referee Khalid Rehmani said.
