LARKANA, Nov 21: The secretary health, Sindh, ordered to initiate inquiry into the alleged bribery charges against the police surgeon and his assistance working in the Chandka Medical College Hospital, Larkana.
Sources told this correspondent that the Taluka Police Officer (TPO), Kambar Nisar Ahmed Brohi, in a communication to the district police officer alleged that the police surgeon, Dr P. R. Khatri, and Dr Imdad Ali Soomro refused to perform the post-mortem of a foot-tracker, M. Panah Brohi, who died in an encounter with dacoits on May 2. They allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs5,000, while Amjad Pirzado gave them only Rs2000. They then performed the post-mortem.
A team of two doctors, Syed Mehboob Shah, medical superintendent of the Chandka Medical College Hospital, and Dr Abdul Wahab Wadho, executive district officer (health), have been appointed as inquiry officers.
The statements of the doctors concerned and the TPO could not be recorded as both the members of the committee were out of the city on Wednesday.
CENTENARY: The district historical society, Larkana, while unfolding its centenary celebration programme, announced that a grand function would be held on Dec 22 to mark the completion of a 100 years of Larkana district.
Talking to newsmen the other day, S. M. Yusuf, the chairman of the society, said that the Sindh governor would be requested to chair the occasion.
He said that books pertaining to the history of Larkana would be republished for the occasion.
He said 15 people who had rendered outstanding contribution in various fields would be presented awards on the occasion.
He said that the scholars would read out their papers and the renowned scholar, Dr N. A. Baloch, would be the chief guest on the day.
INJURED: Four persons were injured over a land dispute in Aarija village in the jurisdiction of Dhamraho police station.
According to details, some armed men of the Umrani tribe had attacked the villagers and injured Nazeer, Mohammed Usman, Khan Mohammed and Imran (all belonging to the Kalhoro clan).
