SARGODHA, Dec 11: The Punjab government has decided to introduce the urban transport system in the city and provide vehicles to transporters at subsidised rates.

This was disclosed in a joint meeting of the Regional Transport Authority and local transporters chaired by DCO Azmat Mahmood here on Sunday.

The DCO said that initially buses would be plied on six routes -- Sargodha Medical College, Asianwala; Chak 49 Tail Pull 47, Qainchi Morr; General Bus Stand, Company Bagh; Jhal Chakian, Ajnala and Shaheenabad.

He advised the transporters to avail the opportunity and consult the management for finalising the feasibility.

The RTA secretary said that transporters had to pay 40 per cent of the total price of the vehicles in five years while 20 per cent amount would be refunded.

Transporters appreciated the government for launching the scheme and said that their delegation would soon meet the transport secretary and apprise him of their demands.

CRACKDOWN: At least 26 weighing machines of four flour mills were sealed in a crackdown launched on collection centres of sugar mills in Sargodha and adjoining districts on Sunday. Police have also registered forgery cases against 15 persons, including officials, of the sugar mills. — Correspondent
