RAWALPINDI: Hundreds of students here on Thursday staged a protest demonstration at Benazir Bhutto Road and Sixth Road against the delay in announcement of the intermediate results and set ablaze Rawalpindi Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (RBISE) office.
According to details, a large number of students of various colleges including Indus College, Punjab College and Jinnah Institute gathered in front of RBISE office and chanted slogans against the RBISE administration and the Punjab government.
The protestors demanded immediate announcement of intermediate part-I result saying that their future is at stake due to negligence of the board officials.
The board result was cancelled earlier after announcement on the demand and protests of the students.
Re-checking of the Intermediate part-I papers was ordered on the special instructions of Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif.
It was also directed by the authorities concerned that it must be compiled and announced within 45 days.
The protesting students were demanding strict action against the board officials who were playing with the future of the students.
After receiving the information Rescue 1122, Fire Brigade and Police reachedthe spot.
CPO Azhar Hameed Khokar along with a contingent of police was also present to cope with any situation.
Police resorted to aerial firing and fired teargas shells to disperse enraged students who ransacked RBISE office, damaged sign boards and blocked the traffic for almost two hours.
Later, talking to media, RBISE spokesman Arslan Cheema informed that today the students belonging to various colleges stormed the Chairman office, Inter Branch and torched the files and furniture of the office. But he made it clear that the entire record of RBISE is safe in Ghazi plaza office.
He clarified that the board has prepared ‘error free result’ after re-checking of the papers of intermediate part-I and it was scheduled to be announced on Dec 24.
