LAHORE, Nov 22: A technical committee comprising five Olympians has been formed to prepare a study report for laying five synthetic hockey pitches in different cities.

The government had earmarked a fund of Rs160million to lay new synthetic turfs at Karachi, Quetta, Sialkot, Abbotabad and Peshawar.

Munir Dar, Shahnaz Sheikh, Akhtar Rasool, Hanif Khan and Tahir Zaman, the members of the committee, would give their recommendations on the type of synthetic surface which is required.

The pitches would be imported after getting the report.

President of Pakistan Gen Pervez Musharraf had announced the grant for laying the pitches at five centres after the national championship’s final in Lahore in 2000.
