Pakistan hosted China in the first match of the four-match series at the Hockey Club Stadium in Karachi. The historic match was the first international hockey match on Pakistani soil in seven years.

Earlier, China were grateful to Pakistan for hosting their team for the "Friendship Series"  and said the Chinese team was hoping to learn from the Green Shirts.

In the first match, Pakistan won 3-0 with goals from Mohammad Irfan, Mohammad Imran and Mohammad Tauseeq.
