MUZAFFARABAD, Dec 21: A team of Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) inspected AJK’s first public sector medical college on Wednesday and showed satisfaction over the arrangements made by the AJK government and its management to successfully run the nascent institution, a spokesman for the college said.

Led by Prof Dr Muhammad Tufail, the 12-member team was briefed by Prof Dr Muhammad Iqbal, Principal of Mirwaiz Maulvi Mohammad Farooq Medical College, on the infrastructure and equipment, faculty and manpower as well as the facilities available in the allied teaching hospitals, spokesman Dr Raja Muhammad Ijaz told Dawn.

The two teaching hospitals are Shaikh Khalifa bin Zayed al-Nahayan (SKZN) Hospital built by the UAE government and Abbas Institute of Medical Sciences ment.

After the briefing, the team visited both the hospitals and was inspired to see the equipment and facilities made available by the donor countries there,” Dr Ijaz, a surgical specialist, said.

The team also visited all departments of basic sciences in the college building located along Narul Cricket Stadium in Jalalabad. The building is part of a huge complex that was built by a Turkish municipality as a gift for the earthquake-stricken people of Muzaffarabad.

“The team left satisfied and we are hopeful that it will approve commencement of classes in the PMDC’s executive committee meeting to be held on December 23,” Dr Ijaz said.

On Wednesday, the visiting PMDC team also called on the AJK premier at a luncheon he hosted in its honour at the PM House shortly before their departure.
