KARACHI: Workers of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) on Monday refused to accept nomination of Syed Ghous Ali Shah as party’s president in Sindh.

The meeting of party’s provincial council, chaired by PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif, witnessed quite emotional moments as the workers registered their protest about the decision without any inhibition.

Party leaders from Karachi and other parts of the province cited the nomination of Syed Ghous Ali Shah as violation of democratic norms.

“Ghous Ali Shah's nomination as PML-N’s president for the province is selection and not election,” said Chief Organiser, PML-N, Karachi division, Syed Hafeezuddin advocate.

The workers alleged that the leader (Ghous) who had retained the post for past 20 years was responsible to cause serious damage to the party in Sindh.

Later the disgruntled workers of the party, in an emergency meeting at the residence of their chief organiser for Karachi division, unanimously refused to accept Syed Ghous Ali Shah as their leader.

They appealed to their party chief Nawaz Sharif to provide opportunity to people with strong credentials and meaningful contribution towards survival of the party amidst what they felt as a strong threat in Karachi in particular and Sindh in general.

The workers said their protest would continue till the decision about provincial party leadership was withdrawn.
