ATTOCK, Jan 2: Nomination papers of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) candidate Malik Mohammad Sameen Khan were rejected by the Returning Officer (RO) during scrutiny, it has been learnt.

Sources in election office informed on Monday that the RO Mohammad Nadeem Khan, who is also Assistant Election Commissioner Attock, rejected the nomination papers of former Naib District Nazim Malik Sameen Khan.

Independent candidate Bashir Ahmed objected that Sameen Khan did not submit correct details of his assets besides leaving some others important columns blank.

He demanded that his nomination should be rejected. Sameen Khan was given a chance to clarify his position. After detailed hearing of the arguments of both sides, the RO rejected the papers.

Earlier 14 nominations were filed to contest the by-election on recently vacated provincial assembly seat PP-18, Attock-IV which has been scheduled for February 6.

The seat fell vacant after resignation of the PPP MPA Malik Khurram Ali Khan who joined Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI).
