BADIN, Jan 8: No candidate has filed nomination papers for the by-election on Sindh Assembly PS-57 (Tando Bago) seat scheduled for Feb 15, although only four days are left for the last date for filing forms.

The reason for the unusual lack of interest and absence of electioneering is said to be differences among party leaders in the district. PPP’s rivals will jump into the fray immediately after the announcement of the name of the PPP candidate.

Sources in the party said that at a recent meeting of the parliamentary committee held at the Chief Minister House the name of Hasnain Mirza, son of Dr Zulfikar Mirza, was approved.

But, the party’s district president Dr Sikandar Ali Mandhro proposed three other candidates, including Pir Amjad Ali Shah, the sources said.

PML-Q leader Syed Ali Bux Shah alias Pappu Shah had announced at a press conference that he would be an independent candidate if his rival Dr Zulfikar or his nominee contested election.

A large number of voters in the constituency will not be able to cast votes because their areas are still under rainwater and candidates, too, will face serious problems in running their campaign in the flooded areas.
