RAWALPINDI, Jan 22: Traffic police have devised a comprehensive plan for Murree during snowfall season according to which entry of heavy vehicles in the city has been banned.

While giving the details of the traffic plan, City Traffic Officer (CTO) Ghulam Abbas Tarar said that an emergency Help Line had also been introduced for facilitating the tourists who could contact the police round the clock in case of emergency.

He said that Help Line centers would also serve as control rooms from where all possible facilities would be provided to the tourists and all-out efforts would be made to cope with any untoward situation.

He said that enhanced number of traffic wardens under the supervision of inspectors had been deployed at all important points of the city.

Ghulam Abbas said that several points had been reserved for car parking and different main roads were closed for two-way traffic. He appealed to the tourists to cooperate with the police so that traffic mess particularly during the snowfall season might be avoided.

Meanwhile, Mr Tarar said that heavy vehicles were not allowed to enter in the hilly resort and he asked the tourists to utilise mini-buses or small vans particularly for school trips as many accidents occurred due to the heavy vehicles.

“The traffic police officials are striving to provide best facilities to the tourists as 55 more wardens have been deputed to ensure smooth flow of traffic so that the tourists may enjoy the snowfall and chilly weather,” he said.

The CTO said that pamphlets were being distributed among the visitors to make them aware of the traffic routes and prevailing conditions in the area.

He said that strict action would be taken against the violators and no leniency would be shown in this regard.

He further said that the traffic police were available to the motorists on the helpline 9269200.

City traffic officer while directing the traffic wardens to behave politely with the citizens said that negligence would not be tolerated in any case. He also directed the wardens to take strict action against those who indulged in over-speeding or rash driving. He said the vehicles of the violators would be impounded. — APP
