KARACHI, Jan 26: Tayyaba Suleman of Islamia Club shocked former national junior champion Maliha Khurshid in a fully stretched battle to move into women’s singles semi-finals of the 38th Karachi Table Tennis championship at Islamia Club on Wednesday evening.

Tayyaba, who had earlier defeated Mariam Lanewala 11-9, 11-3, 11-5, fought rigorously to register a 6-11, 14-12, 11-9, 9-11, 11-9 victory over a regular national player.

She was joined in the last four by Qurat-ul-Ain Zaidi, Farah Ilyas and Abeera Ali.

Abeera Ali and Farah Ilyas, meanwhile, qualified to meet each other in the junior girls’ under-18 singles final. The former carved out a 11-5, 11-6, 11-4 win over Mariam Lanewala while the latter swept aside Haleema Ali 11-7, 11-5, 11-8 in the two semi-finals.
